Deleting your Masadir account
Masadir, the fatwa reference app for Android. Developer: Masadir.
The short version. Masadir works without an account. You have one only if you signed in with Google, in the app or on our panel for muftis. You can delete it in two ways: in the app, from Settings, or by sending us an email. Either way, your account and everything you synced are deleted from our server, and this cannot be undone. The steps for both are below, followed by what is deleted, and what is kept and for how long.
Delete your account in the app
- Open Masadir and tap Settings at the bottom of the screen.
- Look under Account. If it says you are using the app as a guest, tap Sign in with Google and choose the same Google account you signed in with before.
- Tap Delete my account.
- The app asks you to confirm, and says what will be erased and what stays on your phone. Tap Yes, delete.
Your phone needs an internet connection for this. When it is done, the screen says "Your account was deleted and you were signed out."
If the screen says "Could not delete. Please try again.", check that you are connected and tap Delete my account again. The app deletes the questions listed in My Questions from our server first, so some of them may already be gone by then.
Ask us to delete it, without the app
Send an email to fatawa.library@gmail.com from the Google address you signed in with. Your account is recorded under that address, which is how we find it.
Write "Delete my Masadir account" as the subject, and ask in the message for your Masadir account to be deleted. You do not need to send anything else.
We then delete your account and everything you synced with it, as listed under What is deleted, within 30 days of receiving your email. This cannot be undone.
We act only on an email that comes from the Google address the account was made with, because that is how we know the account is yours.
Your questions to a mufti are not part of your account, and nothing on our server says which questions are yours, so we cannot find them from your email. They are deleted when they expire, as described under What is kept, or sooner if you delete them in My Questions on a phone that lists them, while that phone is connected.
Removing Masadir from the apps connected to your Google account does not delete your account with us. Use one of the two ways on this page.
What is deleted
From our server, whichever way you ask:
- Your account, including your name, your email address and your Google account's identifier, which came from Google when you signed in, and the number our server gave your account.
- Every ruling you synced, with which page it is, its title, book, volume, page and chapter, and when you saved it, and the record of rulings you removed while signed in.
- The settings you synced: your language, your theme, your Urdu text size, your tasbeeh counter, and your choice for the qibla, with the city if you chose one.
- Your mufti role, if you had one.
When you delete in the app, it also:
- deletes from our server every question listed in My Questions on that phone, with its answer. A question still waiting for an answer will then not be answered.
- signs you out on that phone, and clears the list of removed rulings not yet sent to our server.
If you sign in again later, that makes a new account. From that moment it holds your name, your email address and your Google account's identifier, but none of your saved rulings or settings until you tap Sync saved fatawa and settings now.
What stays on your phone
Deleting your account removes only two things from your phone: your sign-in, and the list of removed rulings not yet sent to our server. Your saved rulings, your settings, your place for the prayer times, your recent searches, your questions to a mufti with their answers, and the books the app downloaded stay there until you remove them.
- A saved ruling: tap Remove on it in the Saved tab.
- Recent searches: tap Clear recent searches in Settings.
- A question to a mufti: on the Home screen tap Ask a question, which opens My Questions, and tap Delete under the question. This also asks our server to delete it.
- Your place for the prayer times: if you used your location, the app keeps the last position your phone gave it, rounded to about a kilometre. A newer position replaces it, and uninstalling the app removes it.
- Everything at once: uninstall the app. That removes everything it kept on the phone, apart from a picture you saved with Share as image, which is an ordinary file in your phone's Documents folder. The app does not let Android back up its data, so installing it again restores nothing from the phone. If your account still exists, signing in again and tapping Sync saved fatawa and settings now brings back the rulings you synced, and the synced settings you have not set again on the phone.
What is kept on our server, and for how long
- Questions to a mufti that deleting did not reach. A question is not linked to your account, even when you are signed in, and our server keeps nothing that says who sent it. Deleting in the app reaches only the questions listed in My Questions on that phone, and we cannot find any from an email. Any other question, such as one sent from another phone or before the app was installed again, stays on our server until it expires. So does a question you deleted in My Questions while your phone had no connection, or while our server could not delete it: it leaves your phone but stays on our server. Each question keeps what was sent with it: the question, the search or the page you asked from, for a search the edition of the library that was searched, and when it was sent, with its secret key, and later who took it up, its answer, the name shown with it and when it was answered or withdrawn. A question is deleted 30 days after it is answered or its answer is withdrawn. One still waiting for an answer is deleted 90 days after it was sent, and the 90 days start again each time a mufti takes it up or it is handed back. You can delete one sooner with Delete in My Questions on a phone that lists it, while that phone is connected.
- The record of what muftis do. For 400 days our server keeps a record of each time a question is taken up, answered or has its answer withdrawn. Each entry holds the time, the question's identifier, which of our mufti links was used, if one was, who acted (the name we gave that link, or for a mufti who signed in, the number of their account, and for a withdrawal, the name shown with the answer), the answer's length and a fingerprint of it, and for a withdrawal, a short note from us. The same record also notes when one of our mufti links is issued, first opened, reset or cancelled, and each refused attempt to open the mufti panel, with the country and the Cloudflare data centre the attempt came through. It holds no IP address. It never holds the text of the question or the answer, and nothing in it says who asked. Deleting your account does not delete it.
- If you answered questions as a mufti while signed in. The record above keeps the number of your account, not your email address, and for a withdrawn answer the name shown with it, for 400 days. Each question you took up keeps that number, and the name on your Google account, as the mufti who took it up, where other muftis can see them, until that question expires. Each answer you gave stays with its question, under the name shown with it, until that question expires, and stays on the phone of the person who asked.
- Your email to us. If you ask by email, your email stays in our inbox, which is a Gmail inbox, so Google holds it too.
If you never signed in
Then you have no account with us to delete. Your saved rulings and settings have only ever been on your phone. What you search and what you say into the microphone are sent to our server while you are connected, and our server keeps neither. To be answered, the words of a search are passed to Cloudflare's AI service, or to DeepInfra when Cloudflare's cannot take them, as the privacy policy describes. A question you sent to a mufti stays on our server until it expires, as described above, and you can delete it sooner with Delete in My Questions, while your phone is connected.
More about your data
Our privacy policy describes what the app keeps on your phone, what it sends and when, and what signing in keeps. Questions about deleting your account go to fatawa.library@gmail.com.
Like the privacy policy, this page loads its Arabic-script font from Google Fonts, so opening it sends your IP address to Google.
